Things are certainly sweetening up in The Loop this summer thanks to Rocket Fizz, a franchised soda pop and candy shop that opened on Saturday, May 24 at 6303 Delmar Blvd. Husband-and-wife duo Mark and Cheryl Strahm along with business partner Michael Rohrbacker are the first franchisees to bring the California-originating chain to Missouri after their daughter, Mary Marzipan Strahm, had the idea for the shop while watching the TV show “Tanked.”
Whether you’re wistfully searching for a taste of yesteryear or hunting for a flavor that’s out of this world, Rocket Fizz stocks their shelves with more than 500 kinds of soda pop from across the country. Non-traditional flavors tempt curious shoppers along every step inside Rocket Fizz. Some sodas certainly aren’t for the faint of heart, with varieties that range from bacon and buffalo wing to cucumber and green apple jalapeño. Yet, traditionalists can still find plenty of cream sodas, root beers and even Rocket Fizz’s very own line of gourmet sodas laced with ingredients like real cocoa, peanut butter and banana.
If candies are more what your sweet tooth craves, check out their wide selection of novelty treats and snacks. Bins filled with more than 100 colorful varieties of taffy are showcased below retro signs hung on walls, ranging from old movie and concert posters to iconic tin logos. Other candies found along the shelves at Rocket Fizz include old-fashioned favorites like black licorice, Mary Janes, NECCO wafers and sheets of candy buttons. Also, don’t be surprised to see the beloved candies of generations past stocked alongside less familiar items, such as a Japanese candy that lets you roll your own gummy-version of sushi.
Open Monday through Thursday from 11am to 11pm and Friday through Sunday from 11 to 12am. 6303 Delmar Blvd., University City, 314.833.4614.
