Bacon, Buffalo Wing, Ranch Dressing, Apple Pie.
Those aren’t items on a restaurant menu. They are soda flavors at Rocket Fizz Soda Pop and Candy Shop (http://rocketfizz.com) at 1023 Boston Drive at Alamance Crossing in Burlington.
The new shop, part of a chain, specializes in hundreds of flavors of soda and thousands of varieties of candy.
The shop was recently opened by cousins and Burlington natives Bradley Qualls and Justin Qualls.
It is a first for them. Bradley Qualls said he liked the concept and thought it would be really fun to operate a Rocket Fizz shop.
“How cool would it be to go to work every day and see smiles on your customers and your employees. We smile all the time,” said Bradley.
The shop offers bins of loose candy, including saltwater taffy.
Fill a bag with as much as it will hold for $5.99 for a small and $7.99 for a large.
“There’s throwback candies for the baby boomers. Brands from the ’40s to the ’70s. It’s ridiculous,” Bradley said with a laugh.
And with names like Martian Poop, Dirt and Grass, if you can’t find a soda to suit, chances are it doesn’t exist.
The shop also offers plenty of kitsch with novelty items, retro memorabilia and prank gifts.
Bradley says he and his cousin plan to open shops in Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
There are also Rocket Fizz shops in Raleigh, Cary and Fayetteville. The Qualls do not operate those.
Hours for the Burlington store are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
But, Bradley says, they will not lock the doors until everyone has had their fun.
